My job for the last couple of years has required me to spend at least an hour a day, seven days a week, on line — checking urgent emails and updating a web site. That means I was locked to my desktop unless I could find a place with a public-use computer to use while traveling. I used the $500 summer cashback bonus (for 5 months of $3000 in charges) plus my accumulated regular cashback bonus to purchase a top-of-line laptop. What a sense of freedom! We can now go anywhere on the weekends and stay anywhere; all I need is a coffee shop with wifi and I can get my work done while we travel.
Yep, the cashback program has limits, especially the quarterly 5% cashback specials. But I read the disclosures! I follow the rules, and I’ve received everything Discover has promised. I especially like the bonus points for restaurant gift cards — I love getting $50 worth of food for $45 dollars — and then getting 5% of that back again. It’s just like compound interest!
