Savy Business Woman Builds points to use for Home Improvement Project

Cara S, prospect, CT:

I got my Discover card with the intention of using it for college, and so I have. Purchased books and such.

Now I got an amazing promotional no interest for a year offer. In the spring a home was purchased…and lets just say I had a huge part in working on it.

To do the home improvements, I went on Discovercard.com and I used Lowes, my favorite store, to purchase things at amazing sale prices (all while accruing points).

It moved our project right along while giving me incentives & now that I accrued enough points- I was able to maximize my rewards by getting a $100 lowes giftcard to finish off the home project we were doing! What an amazing Christmas gift!! :)

I have no account with DISCOVER except the one they created without telling me. They need to revisit Ethics 101, before the Better Business Burrow writes a public comment.

Hi Kevin, we do not create accounts for our customers without their consent. Please email Nancy, my partner in Customer Service, at socialcs@service.discovercard.com about this matter so she can get it taken care of for you. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks, Laurie

  2. I ALWAYS use my points to help with the cost of home or business improvements!! In fact, just two months ago (11/2012) I used my points to get two $100 gift cards at Lowes. I was able to get the sink, all the required accessories (like baskets, stoppers), all plumbing supplies needed as well as a brand new “long neck” faucet – and still had $8 and change left over.

This sink was badly needed at our store because as we have grown, the more people working here means more people using dishes, cooking pots, etc. The little bar size single sink was just not working anymore! We now have full facilities to actually cook a meal and at least once a week, we do that and all sit down together for lunch. Before, because we really had no way to clean up afterwards, we made “one pan meals” and although we could wash the silverware and glassware here, the other items had to be taken home and washed and then brought back the next day.

The best part of it all – is that it really cost me $0 out of pocket!! The points were earned paying bills and buying things I had to do already, so the points earned, were truly a bonus! Again, THANK YOU DISCOVER, for making my life a little easier and better!
